Based in: Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) 

(Professional) Background: Dr Srofenyoh is the medical director of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, and is also a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist.  

Role in SPOT Study: Dr Srofenyoh functions as one of the leading principal investigators for the SPOT study in Ghana.

Dr. Joyce Browne MD PhD

Based in: University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU), Utrecht, the Netherlands

(Professional) Background:  Dr. Browne is a medical doctor and epidemiologist. Her research focusses on the persistent global inequities in reproductive, maternal and perinatal health. She is currently an assistant professor of global health at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care, UMCU.  

Role in SPOT Study: Dr Browne also functions as one of the leading principal investigators of the SPOT study in the Netherlands.

Dr. Robert Davis MD MPH

Based in: University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center, Memphis, Tennessee, USA 

(Professional) Background: Dr. Davis is currently the Governor’s Chair of Biomedical Informatics at UTHSC. He is trained as an epidemiologist and pediatrician, and has worked in the fields of medication safety during pregnancy and in vaccine safety and effectiveness. 

Role in SPOT Study: Dr. Davis functions as one of the principal investigators of the SPOT-BIO study within the overall SPOT study.

Dr. Claire Simpson PhD

Based in: University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center, Memphis, Tennessee, USA 

(Professional) Background: Dr. Simpson is currently an assistant professor in genetics, genomics and informatics at the University of Tennessee. She holds a PhD in neurogenetics.  

Role in SPOT Study: Dr. Simpson is also one of the principal investigators of the SPOT-BIO study within the overall SPOT study.

Based in: Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra Ghana

(Professional) Background: Dr. Bonsaffoh is a lecturer and consultant obstetrician/ gynaecologist working at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital

Role in SPOT Study: Dr. Bonsaffoh is the local principal investigator in charge of SPOT study activities taking place at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Dr. Frederickson Pobee MB ChB FWACS

(Professional) Background: Dr Frederickson Pobee is a medical doctor, a senior specialist, Obstetrician/Gynaecologist whose interest areas are in fetomaternal medicine. He also holds an MBA in Health Service Management. He is currently the head of the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and also the head of discipline(Obstetrics & Gynecology) Accra College of Medicine.

Role in SPOT Study: Dr. Pobee is the local principal investigator in charge of  SPOT study activities taking place at Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge).

Dr. Arko Akoto-Ampaw

Based in: Eastern Regional Hospital, Koforidua, Eastern Region – Ghana

(Professional) Background: Dr. Arko Akoto- Ampaw is a Specialist Public Health Physician, Epidemiologist and Disease Control Officer with about 20 years of practice as a medical practitioner; of which 14 years have been in top management. He has devoted his practice to public service working with the Ghana Health Service. He is currently the Medical Director in charge of the Eastern Regional Hospital, Koforidua; a 429-bed secondary referral hospital in the Eastern Region of Ghana. He is also the focal person for emergency response for Eastern Regional Health Directorate.

Role in SPOT Study: Dr. Akoto- Ampaw is one of the principal investigators of the SPOT study in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Based in: Eastern Regional Hospital, Koforidua, Ghana

(Professional) Background: Dr. Wuobar is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist and is currently pursuing an MPH. He is interested in quality of care for maternal and newborn care and research that seeks to improve outcomes for maternal and newborn health

Role in SPOT Study: Dr. Wuobar is the local principal investigator in charge of  SPOT study activities taking place at Eastern Regional Hospital.

Role in SPOT Study: Dr. Seth Hansen-Garshong functions on the study as a local principal investigator.

(Professional) Background: Mr. Ampofo obtained his Bachelors degree in information science & sociology. After, he started his career as a clinical research associate. Mr Ampofo is currently pursing a Masters in Public Health.

Role in SPOT Study: Mr. Ampofo is functioning as a research coordinator.

Based in: Anthropology Department, University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands

(Professional) Background: Dr. de Kok is a medical anthropologist, although she has an interdisciplinary social science background. Her research focuses on the social aspects of reproduction, maternity, and care. She is currently an assistant professor at the Anthropology department, University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.  

Role in SPOT Study: Dr de Kok is co-lead of the ethnographic arm (with Dr. Daniel Arhinful) of the SPOT study in the Netherlands
